Monday, September 26, 2005 Impending I feel that something big and sudden is going to happen soon. The half-yellow-half-green trees says it all. Winter is approaching. And I am not too happy about it.
Sunday, September 25, 2005 "Fuck proudly friends: Fuck loudly" An eye-catching, attention-seeking (oh yeah) article in the university newsletter had the following title:"Fuck proudly friends: fuck loudly" <-- (click to read). Enjoy :P
You are so asian-ized! We took the bus home last night after a full evening of shopping. It was the last bus i think, and so it was more packed than usual. My friends and I sat at the back near the exit. A group of Chinese-born-Canadians (we call them CBCs) sat right at the back of us, next to a few other Caucasians.Throughout the whole journey, they were making more noise than a pasar malam could. The girl sitting on the same row as us had such a piercing voice. It was not high-pitched, but just very loud and resonating. I turned around and saw this Caucasian guy who seemed stressed out by the amount of noise they were making - he was sitting in the middle of the group. It was funny. We giggled among ourselves because it was obvious that he was unhappy about it and his face was black. Worse, their conversation was childish. I presume they were first-year students. They got off a stop earlier than us. As they were getting out of the bus, this guy said that he sitll has Savage Garden songs in his iPod. In response to that, that CBC girl commented "Wow, you are so asian-ized." Naturally, we kay-por girls started gossiping about them after they left the bus. However, I felt that it was shameful to say those words when she herself is of asian origin. Also, by that tone of hers, she was implying that we asians are extremely backward because we still listen to Savage Garden's lame songs. Very funny, haha. It is a pity. Perhaps she was not brought up to learn about her roots. I guess, in some ways, the fault is not hers. Or theirs. What a pity. My friend felt like slapping her, hehe! But yeah, it will be a waste of time to make a big deal out of it. Living in a foreign country on my own, where I am exposed to different beliefs and cultures, many people expected me to change in drastic ways. I am proud enough to say that I have changed into a more matured and independent person but culture-wise, I am happy enough with the lifestyle and culture that I grew up with. This short scenario last night will serve as a reminder for me to keep my roots at heart while keeping and open mind to learn other people's cultures and beliefs.
Monday, September 12, 2005 Back to studying Haha. I haven't had the time to write since I got back. For now, I am using the wireless internet at university. However, it gets a little twitchy. Seriously, I am hoping my cable internet gets here as soon as possible. My laptop is currently in the living room because the wireless reception is much better than in my room upstairs.Nothing much to report actually. After all, it is my third year, and I am pretty familiar with university and all. My courses for this term are looking tough. Expectations are higher this time. More reports to write instead of just pre-assigned assignments. I am taking a first-year course as my science elective - Cell Biology. I am hoping it won't be too bad. Other than that, I am pretty happy for now with my current housemates. Two days ago we celebrated Yee Ying's birthday. Last Saturday we went to the Legislature Building to walk around. Took some nice pictures too. The weather then was really beautiful, but now it is starting to get colder. Winds were sweeping across town fiercely. Everyone feels that winter will arrive sooner this year. Last night, we wanted to watch The Exorcism of Emily Rose at the theaters, but decided to postpone it to Tuesday instead (because tickets are only $6 haha!). Therefore, we ended up watching The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on Jackie's computer. It was a funny movie. The kind of humour I like. I presume it is not everyone's cup of tea. Douglas Adams's humour is just amusingly crappy. After that, my friends were all discussing how they should celebrate my birthday. As usual, Jackie and his bright ideas ... well you see, I bought two glass shots for him and his brother as souveniers from Australia. He did not want to accept it and insisted that I take shots from those glasses first before giving it to him. Apparently, it makes it more "fun" Getting me drunk is not fun *ahem* I am pretty destructive ... when I am super high. So, on the 30th September, which is a Friday, I have to drink 22 shots (the 20 shots was added in because I am turning 20). Terrible friends. Well, naturally... I won't even make it to the 20th shot. So they discussed again and let me share the shots with others, but I have to drink a minimum of 6-10 shots. Looks like I'm going to be dead drunk. Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure. Tata for now. At university Legislature Building - Fall 2005 Liana, Yee Ying, Me & Miku! The party - Yee Ying's birthday 7/9/2005
